Portrait

Phil in Jupiter
Oil on Canvas
February 2008

This was a portrait I did of a classmate in Painting class. We had the task of painting a portrait of someone (besides ourselves), so I painted Phil and he painted me. This was my first time using oil paint in color so it was definitely a learning process. I experimented a lot with mixing colors for this one and using warm tones as well as cool tones in making the right pigment for human flesh. Not as easy a task as I imagined.

Why Jupiter? Well because the background looks like Jupiter and Jupiter is the name of a really good 311 song. The song is positive with a good rhythm, much as I think painting can be. Phil's a positive, upbeat dude as well, so that worked.

Graphite on Paper
Fall 2007

The third drawing I made for my Senior Studio Thesis. It is in a series along with the World Trade Center and Bombing drawings that were posted previously here.

Aerial View

Here is a bird's eye view of the house as situated on the lot. It's a corner lot in a neighborhood with a lot of trees dividing the lots.

House Design: Feature

Here is the full color image of the house I designed. The plot of land it sits on does actually exist in Omaha, Nebraska. I had fun making this one.

The top image is an elevated view (southwest) of the house created using Adobe Illustrator.
Then I used Photoshop to place the line drawing in the lot I've chosen for it just to give you an idea of how the finished product will look. Within the next week, I'll have a fully color-rendered image of the house in the lot. Stay tuned.
This is a concept sketch of how the house will look once it's placed in the context of the lot. I found an actual lot that this house could be built and I've designed it to fit this environment.
