Soldier's PortraitGraphite on Paper
Fall 2007
The fourth drawing in my Senior Studio Thesis. All of this work is at the Gorecki gallery at the BAC and soon to be in the Saint John's Art Center gallery for the Juried Exhibition this coming January.
Here is the front elevation of the house, which faces south. I wanted to use the black in the negative space and the windows to really emphasize the windows surrounding the upper level of the house. The celing of the upper (second) level goes as high as the roof. So, the second level of the house has a very high celing. With all the windows and the high celing on the upper level, the living area and kitchen is going to feel huge.
Here is the pencil drawing for the Second Floor of the house. You may notice that the first floor of the house contains the bedrooms and bathrooms, while the second floor holds the kitchen and living area. I like this idea because I think the idea of an elevated living area with windows surrounding is really neat. It appeals to me more than having the living area on the ground floor. All the natural light can be incorporated into the living and eating area.
