South Elevation (Final)
Here is the front elevation of the house, which faces south. I wanted to use the black in the negative space and the windows to really emphasize the windows surrounding the upper level of the house. The celing of the upper (second) level goes as high as the roof. So, the second level of the house has a very high celing. With all the windows and the high celing on the upper level, the living area and kitchen is going to feel huge.
Wa-lah! Ground Floor Plan
Second Floor
Here is the pencil drawing for the Second Floor of the house. You may notice that the first floor of the house contains the bedrooms and bathrooms, while the second floor holds the kitchen and living area. I like this idea because I think the idea of an elevated living area with windows surrounding is really neat. It appeals to me more than having the living area on the ground floor. All the natural light can be incorporated into the living and eating area.

Preliminary Floor Plan

Going in to deeper water...
This is a preliminary floor plan for the first floor of the house I'm drafting for a self-designed project in Computer Art II. I know it's extremely blurry, but it was done in pencil and the digital photograph is not very sharp. You get the basic idea. Anyway, for this project I want to present a professional architectural portfolio as the final product. It will have computerized floor plans and elevated views of the exterior of the house. When I upload the finalized images onto here, it will look much sharper. I thought that drafting a house would be a neat idea (as well as practical) as I begin to explore architecture in more depth. I'm sure I would make architecture students criticize away, but it's my first attempt...and you've got to start somewhere...

Split Personality?
Self Portrait II
Graphite on Paper
Spring 2007
One of the final projects for Drawing II. Again, usually I do not like drawing myself, it feels awkward. But I enjoyed doing this one. I liked exploring facial sculpting with the pencil using shadow and light. For this one, I wanted to convey that we all have a lighter side and a darker side to our personalities. I'd say I'm a pretty positive person, but definitely have a healthy dose of cynicism. Try to guess which one is which in this drawing. Looking forward vs. looking backward.

Boring?
Corner of the Studio
Charcoal on Paper
Fall 2005
This is another drawing from my Sophomore year in Drawing I. We had the simple task of taking a very small portion of the room and drawing it. Simple, right? So, I picked a boring old corner of the drawing studio and went to work. I wanted to show depth and perspective, most of all. What I was most proud of with this drawing was the indication of light peeking from the curtain onto the beam of the ceiling. It gave me a good idea that depth (particularly a corner in a room) can be very difficult to draw realistically.

Charcoal Drawing, Take Two
Still Life No. 2
Charcoal on Paper
Fall 2005
Now, let me step back a couple years from the previous posted computer artwork. This was the second complete still life drawing I did in Drawing I during Fall semester of my Sophomore year. The first still life drawing was the image with the man and arm sculptures. This still life obviously has a women sculpture, bird sculpture, and vase as the composition in front of a sheet backdrop. This time, the objects were all different colors (as opposed to black and white), so it was more difficult to determine shading, shadow, and light. I was happier with the resulting outcome of this drawing than the previous charcoal drawing I posted. It even made for a very interesting composition with the electrical cord wrapped around the sculpture. That was not intentional, but interesting as a result.

Fall 2007
For this one, I was going for intensity like in the original red and black image. I wanted to portray the intensity that a race brings when the gun goes off. After I completed this project, I told myself I was going to find other inspiration besides running for my projects. It seems I've used running as inspiration quite a bit. It's just hard to detach myself from that, I guess. However, I know that there is more that inspires me. So, stay tuned.

I wanted to expand on the ideas presented in the red and black running poster, so I created this image of running in the city. It was one image in a series of images for the first project in Computer Art II of Fall semester of my Senior year. It was framed along with the others and hung in the gallery for a brief period.

Computer Art
Running Intensity
Adobe Photoshop CS2
Fall 2006
This was a project I did during Computer Art I during my Junior year Fall semester. For this project, we had to pick a textual source and then create a work of art based on that source. I picked a passage in a Book on the Psychology of Motivation that I found in the library. It talked about one's "success mechanism" and drive. I related it to running and went from there. I wanted to depict the brain as the source of all drive, motivation, and will power. The brain controls everything: the heart, which pumps blood, which circulates oxygen to the lungs, which allows one to utilize energy. It's all pretty interesting to me. I added the silver circuitry throught the black squares to show the connection of all the organs and movement. I wanted to make a running poster that was both intense and motivational.
Light and Shadow
Still Life No. 1
Charcoal on Paper
Fall 2005
Before taking Drawing I during my Sophomore Fall Semester, I had only ever drawn with pencil and ink. So, drawing in charcoal was a new thing for me. I had a lot of fun with it, though. Here was my first attempt at a finished charcoal drawing. For this drawing, I positioned these objects (a small statue, fire lamp, and arm sculpture against a blanket backdrop. The images being drawn here were all black and white, so it was relatively easy to depict light, shadow and shading. What was difficult was drawing the design around the base of the lamp. I had to use a charcoal pencil for that.
I love lamp.
Lamps
Charcoal on Paper
Fall 2005
One of the first assignments for Drawing I. We had to find a composition in the room and draw "the space surrounding the objects." I picked the lamps situated by the wall because there would be A LOT of space to draw and fill-in. This was somewhat time consuming in order to get clean edges and that very dark black with the charcoal. I thought it turned out neat and was a different approach to drawing for me at that time.
Self Portrait

Fall 2005
This was the final project for Drawing I, which I took first semester of Sophomore year. I don't like drawing myself, it feels awkward but since the project had to be a self portrait I thought it would be cool to do it of me running. I worked from photograph using a grid system, a system of working that I would continue to use until today.

Welcome!
Well, I guess I'll kick this blog off by saying welcome to all who visit. I started this blog primarily as a place where I can display artwork and document my journey to become a professional. As of now, I am planning on going to an architecture school in the Fall of 2008, working towards a Master's degree. I am not entirely sure where I'll be going yet, but thought I'd start to display artwork I've created over the last few years as an undergraduate. Think of this as an online portfolio of work I've done as well as a journal of my process and personal reflections about the work. This is only a selection of the work I've produced over the last four years. It is what I feel is my best work. Please, feel free to leave comments and feedback on anything you'd like. It would be much appreciated! Thanks for visiting and come back soon.
